THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE VERNON METHODIST CHURCH

The Vernon Memorial Methodist Church is a church rooted in the word of God and a community of people maturing in Christ.This church has a rich heritage.The Methodist church began its work in India in 1870, through a revival meeting of Rev. William Butler. The Marathi work began In Mumbai form 10th November 1871.During the regional conference held from 30-12-1916 to 3-01-1917, the then D.S. Rev. W.E. Bonkraft in his report said that two people were appointed in the suburbs of Mumbai, one in Kalyan & other in Tarapur. They ministered to the English speaking people from Britain who were working in railways. Mr. K.H.Bhingarkar served the Marathi speaking people. Since then the congregation grew rapidly. In 1925 the number of English congregation declined.In the D.S. report of the regional conference held on 13-18 December 1928, documents that congregation under the Pastoral care of Rev. P.B.Karandikar grew rapidly.In this journey of 100 years the church had a time to grow and spread under the able & capable leadership of 33 Pastors.

Now Rev. Samuel Joglekar is the pastor of Vernon Memorial Methodist Marathi Church.
